2D fighting games are one of my favorite genres, if only because I was there from day 1 for them. Admittedly I didn’t get into them until Street Fighter 2 but watching people play them and see how good they were was a fun arcade watch.
The PlayStation’s limited 2D capabilities caused some concern early on with releases, but developers eventually found their way with the hardware. Oddly enough, Capcom’s willingness to change up the games from their arcade counterparts allowed them to explore new game play techniques without risk. Several features in the PlayStation version of X-Men Vs Street Fighter and Marvel Super Heroes Vs Street Fighter can still be seen in modern releases.
