Secrets

Marvel Vs. Capcom is stuffed with a ton of great characters and hidden features. Let’s go crazy!

Unlockables
  • EX Option Menu
At the title screen highlight Option and quickly press R1, Circle, Left, Triangle, Triangle. This will bring up the EX Option Menu and provide the following options:

    • Have the CPU control Player 2 in versus
    • Set The Hyper Combo Gauge to Normal or Full at Round Start
    • Change the speed at which the life bar regenerates

A joke here is that the button press is essentially Akuma’s ‘Demon Rage’ controller input, but from Player 2’s side with the Light attacks replaced with Mediums.

  • After Fight Pummeling and Secret Bonus Points
After you win the fight, press the Select Button during the point tally to regain control of your character. You can now beat-up the already fallen opponent.Furthermore you can earn bonus points for posing! If your character is caught in a specific animation frame when the scoreboard pulls them to the center, you might see a quick burst of points appear just to the right of their animation frame. You can earn anywhere from 1,000 to 30,000 points! Experiment 😀
  • Choose the Same Character Twice
Finish the game with any character. You can now choose the same character for both slots.
  • Swap Character Slots
Make sure you choose a Partner Hero. At the Loading Screen, hold the (Punch x 3) Button. When the game starts, you will now be in full control of the 2nd chosen character. Your first choice becomes the Variable assist. To swap back, at the next versus screen hold the (Punch x 3) button till the round starts.
  • Steal Your Opponent’s Partner
Once your opponent is beaten, while the score is tallying up press and hold the (Kick x 3) Button until you get back to the character select screen. You will now have swapped out your Assist Character for theirs.
  • Steal Your Opponent’s Partner AND Use Them!
You can actually combine the Swap Character and Steal Partner codes to change characters in real time as you play. Note that for this to work the opponent’s 2nd character MUST be a Partner Hero.Win the fight, and while the points are tallying hold the (Kick x 3) button. Once back at the character selection screen, you should see their partner is now yours. As soon as you see the Versus screen, press and hold the (Punch x 3) Button. When the round starts, you will now have their partner as your main character! You can repeat this process infinitely as long as it’s always a Partner Hero. You can steal Special Heroes, you just can’t play as them.

To select Shadow and Sentinel, beat the game once. On the Helper selection screen, Press Down on Iceman for Shadow (Charlie) and Press Down on Colossus for Sentinel.

  • Start as Mech Zangief

  • Ryu’s Character Swaps
Street Fighter’s poster boy has the ability to use Ken and Akuma’s move sets, complete with coordinating outfit color schemes. You can even start as his alter-egos.

    • To start the fight as Ken: cursor over Ryu, and while holding the Select Button choose Ryu.
    • To start the fight as Akuma: cursor over Ryu, and while holding the Start Button choose Ryu.
    • To swap identities during the fight: Press Down, Down-Back, Back + Medium Punch for Ken. Do the same with Fierce Punch to swap into Akuma. Repeat with Light Punch to return to Ryu’s move set. Keep in mind Ryu will stay in whatever identity you pick until you revert.
  • Fight Against the Hidden Characters
Players can fight against the unlockable characters if a certain set of criteria are met. There are 4 stipulations that must be met for them to appear in Round 7:

    • Do not lose a round
    • Do not continue
    • A 2nd player can not join in
    • Meet the character specific criteria below.

The specific criteria revolves around the three ways to finish a fight – using Hyper Combos, Variable Cross, and Variable Combination.

    • A character’s Hyper Combo
      For example, Ryu’s Down, Down-Right, Right + 2 Punches
    • Variable Cross
With 2 Super Meter Levels, press Down, Down-Back, Back + 2 Punches
    • Variable Combination
With 2 Super Meter Levels, Press Down, Down-Toward, Toward + 2 PunchesEach of the six characters require you to perform a set number of these moves as the final hit in the deciding round. Due to the similarity in the requirements, I’ve mapped out a path from the hardest-to-reach character to the easiest. This way if you miss a round, you can focus on the next available character. Use the specific finisher in the order they are listed and you’ll fight that character every time.

For example, for Shadow Lady, The first 4 characters must be beaten with a Variable Cross, the 5th round won with a Hyper Combo, and then the 6th round with a Variable Combination.

Fight Shadow Lady
4 Variable Crosses, 1 Hyper Combo, 1 Variable Combination
Note: All 6 rounds need a finisher

Fight High Speed Venom
3 Variable Crosses, 2 Hyper Combos, 1 Variable Combination
Note: All 6 rounds need a finisher

Fight Roll
3 Variable Cross, 1 Hyper Combo, 1 Variable Combination
Note: Only 5 of the 6 rounds need finishers

Fight Golden Armor War Machine
5 Hyper Combos
Note: Only 5 of the 6 rounds need finishers

Fight Lilith-Style Morrigan
4 Hyper Combos
Note: Only 4 of the 6 rounds need finishers

Fight Orange Hulk
3 Hyper Combos
Note: Only 3 of the 6 rounds need finishers
