Trivia

  • Bust a Move is really called Puzzle Bobble, as the characters in the game are from Bubble Bobble. In a weird turn of events, when the actual rhythm game Bust-A-Move came to America, it had to be renamed to Bust-a-Groove to not be mixed up with this game!
  • Acclaim has this really weird fetish with puzzle game covers. Match sticks in eyes for this one, and then Super Bust a Move on PS2 featured a baby wearing sunglasses and having a piece of candy on its lips.

Secrets

Bust-a-Move 2 has some fun goodies hiding behind a menu or two.

Programmer’s Cheats
  • Bonus Credits
Choose Options. In the Options Menu, press Left, Right, R1, R2, L2, L1, Up, Down. A 30 second timer will appear in the corner. Quickly highlight ‘Credits’ and start tapping Cross as fast as you can. Pressing Cross four times will give you one extra credit. The catch is that now each next extra credit requires one more press. So your 2nd credit requires 5 press of the Cross Button, the 3rd credit requires 6, and so on. If fast enough, you should be able to get up to 30 free lives.According to a source, if you go for one more after 30, the counter resets, so be careful. The best I could do even with multiple turbo options was 24 extra credits. Note that if you accidentally exit out in the middle of the credit adding, you will need to start from scratch.
  • Another World
At the title screen with ‘Press Start is flashing’, press R1, Up, L2, Down. You’ll see a small green character from Bubble Bobble appear in the corner. Now start the game and choose Puzzle Game mode. You’ll see the words “Another World” at the bottom of the screen. Once you start the game, the levels will look more like the graphics in Bubble Bobble. You can repeat the code entry to turn this feature off.
  • Character Select
Start Puzzle Mode. At the map screen, press Left, Left, Up, Down, then L1 + L2 + R1 + R2 together. A secret screen will pop with a character select menu. Press left or right then press Cross to continue. Your new choice will show up once in game. You can choose from 9 different characters, which include Bob, Bub, and the 7 opponent characters.
