Built for the serious 32-Bit racer, Formula 1 Championship Edition is fueled with lap after searing lap of Mach-speed thrills, AI-driven competitors, and down-to-the-tread realism.

  • Contains all 13 Formula 1 teams, all 17 searing circuits, and a diverse collection of Formula 1-spec cars.
  • Incredible 2-player split screen action, horizontally and vertically.
  • Bone-jarring collisions designed from actual Formula 1 crash footage.
  • Split screen, Huge Collisions, In cockpit view, Dynamic Weather Effects

Variants

The Formula 1 Championship Edition had legal issues that required a second printing. First, the developers’ use of parody logos based on real ones failed. As an example, turning Foster’s Beer into ‘Faster’. Second, they must have assumed they had specific rights to various related logos. For instance, TAG Heuer’s logo is used in the timer and in-track signs.

Thankfully, the censored version is easy to spot. Look for these three things:

  • The cover artwork now extends to the bottom, and the two logos are flipped.
  • The back insert is now a blue background (it looks white in my scan), and the top text is two lines.
  • The disc now has the Hint Line and FIA logo on it.
  • New ID – SLUS-00612
  • New PSRM – PSRM-009310

Secrets

Formula 1 Championship Edition is full of some amazing password cheats. To implement them, you will need to select Grand Prix, then choose Driver from the Selection screen, and finally, Edit Driver. The first word in the code is their first name, and the second word is their last name.

  • Watch the Other Racers Qualify
Plug in a second controller and head to Grand Prix mode. Once in a Qualifying lap,  park your racecar on the side of the road, so it’s on the right side of the white line. Now, switch to the second controller and hold Select for a secret menu to appear. It will allow you to watch the CPU cars run their qualifiers.
  • 1st Place In the Entire Scoreboard
Enter TOO EASY as the driver’s name. Opens up all the tracks with 1st place wins in Arcade Mode.
  • Extra Difficulty
Enter BLOOMIN ARD as a driver’s name. Drivers are more aggressive, and the car is a bit more slippery
  • All Four Bonus Tracks
Enter BILLY BONUS as a driver’s name. The four bonus tracks, Adia, Edialeda, Sonob, and the 1960’s mode tracks will be accessible.
  • Overheard Viewpoint
Enter ZOOM LENSE as a driver’s name. The camera is now directly overhead.
  • Cartoon Versions of Murray & Martin
Enter BOX CHATTER as a driver’s name. This will cause little cartoon character versions of the announcers to appear on screen. If you perform the cheat and go directly to Arcade mode, they’ll be donning sunglasses and dancing to the music.
  • Goofy Sound Effects
Enter SWAP SHOP as a driver’s name. When you collide with walls or leave the track, goofy little sound notes play.
  • Massive Tires
Enter LITTLE WEELZ as a driver’s name. You will need to exit back and play Arcade Mode for this to work.
  • Raining Frogs
Enter CATS DOGS as the driver’s name. Changing the weather to Rainy will result in frogs falling from the sky
  • Begin the Championship at Round 16 with various options
Make sure you set the mode to Championship after inputting the code.
    • Enter driver’s name as NEAN ALESI: Have 0 points and in Last Place
    • Enter driver’s name as OEAN ALESI: Have 200 points and in 2nd Place
    • Enter driver’s name as PEAN ALESI: Have 200 points and in 3rd Place
    • Enter driver’s name as QEAN ALESI: Have 200 points and in 4th Place
  • VR Style Graphics
Enter VIRTUALLY VIRTUAL as a driver’s name. The game will now look like Sega’s Virtua Racing game.
  • Wipeout Mode
Enter PI MAN as a driver’s name. This removes the wheels but adds a fusion turbine to the back. All cars now control and fly like in Psygnosis’ Wipeout game.
