Secrets

V-Rally 2: Need For Speed is no stranger to cheat codes, and it hides an incredible take on the classic game Snak/Snafu. So much so that a guide had to be written about it. 🙂

Game Passwords
  • All Cars and Trophies
Go to Game Options, then the Game Progress screen, and press L1, R1, Left, Right, Left, Right, Up, Down, Up, Down, Cross, Cross + Select. If you did it correctly, a sound will confirm it. You can then press Cross on any car or trophy to unlock it.
  • Hidden Track 1 – Hills
Enter “CBLC ” in the name box. Quit and start a new race to change. Choose your car after entering the code. Pick Time Trial from the game mode screen. Select Corsica and choose any course. You will race on a new track.
  • Hidden Track 2 – Rocky Cliff
Enter “CBLCA” in the name box. Quit and start a new race to change. Choose your car after entering the code. Pick Time Trial from the game mode screen. Select Corsica and choose any course. You will race on a new track.
  • Hidden Track 3 – Rocky Cliff Mirrored
Enter “CBLCB” in the name box. Quit and start a new race to change. Choose your car after entering the code. Pick Time Trial from the game mode screen. Select Corsica and choose any course. You will race on a new track.
  • Hidden Track 4 – Country Jumps
Enter “CBLCC” in the name box. Quit and start a new race to change. Choose your car after entering the code. Pick Time Trial from the game mode screen. Select Corsica and choose any course. You will race on a new track.
  • Hidden Track 5 – Country Jumps Mirrored
Enter “CBLCD” in the name box. Quit and start a new race to change. Choose your car after entering the code. Pick Time Trial from the game mode screen. Select Corsica and choose any course. You will race on a new track.
Mini Game ARAIGNOS (2 to 4 Players)

Note: You will need the Multi-Tap plugged into the player 1 slot, with all controllers plugged into it.

  • Go to Game Options, then the Game Progress screen, press L1, R1, L2, R2, L1, L1, R1, R1, L2, L2, R2, R2, Circle, Select+Circle. If you did it correctly, a sound will confirm it. Now exit, enter any driver name, choose any car, and start the race. Instead of racing, you’ll be introduced to ARAIGNOS. It’s a game like ‘Snake’ or ‘Snafu’ where each player is a continually growing line. The goal is to be the last snake on screen by avoiding colliding with other players or the wall.
ARAIGNOS Guide

ARAIGNOS-title

Special thanks to Bo and his two-year-old at Rings of Saturn, along with my wife Rebecca, for helping with this guide. The game is INSANELY fast on original hardware. If you activate this in DuckStation and set the emulation speed to 30 or 40%, it’s much more enjoyable.

Controls

  • D-Pad = Up, Down
  • Circle = Right
  • Square = Left
  • Cross = Activates Certain Power-Ups
  • Start = Pauses Game
  • Select = Exits game to a Score Screen, and then exits you back to the Selection Screen

The game flips between both halves of the controller for each move you make. So if you wanted to go Up, Right, Down, Left, you would need to press D-Pad Up, Circle, D-Pad Down, Square. Running into the other player’s line, your line, or the wall kills you.

Scoring

The number in the center of the screen at the top is the number of rounds left to play. The three-digit number is that person’s score. Players 1 and 2 are on top, Players 3 and 4 are on the bottom. I *think* the number of points awarded for winning the turn is based on how many seconds you’re alive.

Power-Ups

Two types of dots will appear on screen – small orange pixels and larger white pixels. Crossing over these pixels triggers a power-up type that shows as an icon at the top of the screen.

Orange Dots

These give the player a heart, allowing one mistake. It appears to the left of the Player’s number.

White Dots

These affect the player, an opponent, or sometimes the entire field. Note that some require you to press Cross to activate them.

Speed:

Press Cross to move even faster, and a timer counts down

Money Bag:

Power-ups are instantly sprinkled onto the play field.

Beer Bottle:

The game will automatically create inputs without you, as if you were drunk.

araignos-power-up-jump

Erases the whole board, and you start with fresh tails wherever you were when it activated.

Re-color:

You’ll begin to overwrite another player’s tail color with your own. If it reaches the head, they’ll die.

araignos-power-up-swap

Separation:

You stop drawing your tail. Makes you hard to see while you seek the next power-up.

araignos-power-up-sleepwalker

Punt:

Pressing Cross will cause another snake to be cut from their line and warped to another part of the screen.

araignos-power-up-punter

Wide Beam:

Pressing Cross will make your tail HUGE. Like, insanely big. Roll everything in your path.

araignos-power-up-wideboy

Bomb:

The maze collapses in until one hits the edge. Acts like a quick ‘sudden death’ for all involved. You can escape through small paths at the center of each wall.

araignos-power-up-bomb

Lightbulb:

It isn’t obvious what this does.

araignos-power-up-lightbulb

Water:

A burst of water opens randomly on screen and fills the area. If it hits your tail, the water will follow the flow of your tail. If it falls off in front of you, it kills you.
