Variants
Tiger Woods 99 is one of the PlayStation’s most notorious variant releases thanks to a sneaky developer and an even more curious end user. Several months after the game’s release, a user discovered that a file marked ZZDUMMY on the disc was in fact a video of the original South Park pilot ‘Santa vs Jesus’. While the video was no way accessible from a PlayStation, the act got EA in trouble as the video’s violence and language violated their ESRB rating.
EA would end up recalling the discs and re-releasing it without the file included. This recall hasn’t impacted the game’s value at all or even the accessibility of the variant – as long as you know what to look for, it’s readily available. Thanks to EA tagging every piece of the physical product, we can tell you what to look for.
The South Park version manual will be #791105 (back cover bottom right), the insert #791120 (back cover, next to EA Logo) and the disc is #791107 (on disc, underneath the logo with the copyright). The retail code is 0 14633 07911 1.
The corrected version numbers will be the manual with #799905, the insert with #799920 (sku 0 14633 07999 9), and disc #799907.
If you place the South Park version into a PC and have a compatible video player (like VLC), you’ll be able to access the video.
