Variants

It’s important to note that NFL Blitz had its NFL Official Logo Hologram on the case lid – not the manual. So if a case has been replaced, that’s why you see “hologram goes here” on all the manuals. It’s not a misprint. 🙂 Otherwise released in the goold old Greatest Hits subset.

NFL Blitz Greatest Hits Release

Greatest Hits Release

There was a later release of the Greatest Hits with a Round NFL Hologram rather than the standard square version. This would place this GH release sometime in 2001. Confirmed by a factory-sealed copy. Note the hologram is on the case lid, not the shrinkwrap.

Secrets

Midway’s NFL Blitz is stocked to the ceiling with secrets and codes. They are divided into hidden controller commands, hidden characters, and Versus Screen Codes.

Hidden Commands
  • Hide the Play Cursor
Press Up, Up on the upper-left play at the play selection screen.
  • Onside Kicks
Hold Up + Turbo + Jump + Pass after you scored and chosen FG or finished the 2 PTA.
  • Extra blocker
Before hiking the ball, hold Turbo + Jump + Pass. As you hike the ball a receiver will quickly run to the center with the original three line-men to assist blocking.
Hidden Characters

To use these codes choose Name Entry, then enter the name and then the pin. For the sake of formatting, we have listed the Pin first and the Name second. When inputting these, a voice over of “Lights Out, Baby!” will ring out, confirming the entry worked. Any name that contains the words ‘Has Stats’ in the description will start the player in the mid- season with varying stats.

Versus Codes

At the Versus Screen you will see 3 NFL Shapes under your team helmet. These symbols represent the Code Activation tumbler sequence for the hidden cheats. Each symbol is tied to the buttons on the arcade panel (or game console controller). In order the 1st symbol is the Turbo Button, the 2nd symbol is Jump, and the 3rd symbol is Pass.

There are 6 symbols that can appear, in order:

0 – NFL Players Logo
1 – Midway Logo
2 – AFC Logo
3 – NFC Logo
4 – NFL Logo
5 – Play Football

To activate a Cheat, you will need to press each button the corresponding amount of times and then press the directional pad in the appropriate direction. For example, if you wanted the Headless Team Cheat (1-2-3-Right), you would press Turbo 1 time, Jump 2 times, Pass 3 times and press Right at the end. You would see a Midway Logo, AFC Logo, NFC Logo and then the actual code called out on screen as confirmation.
