INTRODUCTION:
Congratulations! You are the new owner of the V3 Racing Wheel for the PlayStation game console. The V3 Racing Wheel consists of both a steering wheel unit and a foot pedal unit. Unlike other steering wheel controllers, the V3 Racing Wheel works with analog AND digitally controlled games. The Analog (Namco NegGcon Controller Mode) or Digital (Standard Controller Mode) output of the steering wheel unit provides super-realistic control while the spring-action foot pedal unit gives you the feeling of being IN the game! In addition, the adjustable steering sensitivity and Button Relocation Function give you customizable control configurations that are impossible with other PlayStation controllers. The adjustable wheel positioning (tilt and height), together with the unique dual-function base (self-standing or in-lap), provides the most natural and comfortable way to play any racing game!

PRODUCT DESCRIPTIONS:
The V3 Racing Wheel for use with the PlayStation can emulate 2 modes of configuration: Analog (default setting) and Digital. The configuration mode can be changed anytime during game play, please refer to the FUNCTION DESCRIPTIONS section of this manual for details. The button layouts for each of these 2 modes are shown below.
NOTE: When the V3 Racing Wheel is operating in the Digital Mode:
- The wheel will trigger the left and right directional output after a 30-degree rotation
- The foot pedals will trigger an output signal after being deflected by 10 degrees or more
CONNECTION & INSTALLATION:
The V3 Racing Wheel includes a steering wheel unit, foot pedal unit & 4 detachable suction cups. It is quite easy to connect them together. However, first you must switch the PlayStation game console to “OFF” before connecting the V3 Racing Wheel.
Connecting the Foot Pedal Unit to the Steering Wheel Unit:
To simulate the real driving experience, you can use the foot pedal unit to control the acceleration and braking actions. To connect these two units, simply plug the DIN-type (multi-pin) plug found on the foot pedal unit into the base of the steering wheel unit. NOTE: Make sure that the arrow on the plug and the arrow on the base of the steering wheel unit (located near the socket) are aligned before fully inserting the plug into the socket.
Connecting the Steering Wheel Unit to the PlayStation Game Console:
Plug the cable from the steering wheel unit into the appropriate controller port (i.e. – for one player mode the V3 must be plugged into controller port #1) on the PlayStation game console.
You are now ready to play!
NOTE: Do not turn the steering wheel when switching on the PlayStation console. If the wheel is not at its neutral position when the console is turned on, then the position that it was held at will be read as the new neutral and cause the unit to operate incorrectly. To reset the neutral position, let go of the steering wheel so that it comes to rest at its natural position, then press START while holding down the two left buttons simultaneously. This will cause the V3 Racing Wheel to reset to its default settings (analog mode, lowest steering sensitivity and default button settings).
Installation of Suction Cups:
The V3 Racing Wheel has a dual function base; it can either fit in your lap (thereby securing under your legs) or attach to a table-top. In order to stabilize the unit during game play when table-mounted, screw the 4 suction cups included into the metal base of the steering wheel unit by inserting the suction cup into the slot and turning it right (clockwise) to lock it in place. To remove a suction cup, simply turn it to the left (counter-clockwise) and pull it out.
FUNCTION DESCRIPTIONS:
The V3 Racing Wheel not only performs all the same functions as the original PlayStation controller, as well as Namco’s Negcon controller, but it also has some new features never before found on a PlayStation controller. The Circle, Square, Triangle, and Cross buttons, four thumb-controlled buttons (L, R, I, II when in Analog Mode or L1, L2, R1, R2 when in Digital Mode) and digital direction pad work in the manner to which you are accustomed. But, with the new SET button, you can adjust the steering sensitivity and customize your button configuration with the Button Relocation Function. Furthermore, the TILT and UP/DOWN (lock/unlock) knobs on the base of the steering wheel unit allow you to adjust the height and angle of the wheel to suit your preference.
Function Setting:
Changing between Analog and Digital Modes
In Analog Mode, the steering wheel and foot pedals have analog output, which means the output signal amplitude is proportional to the actual movement of the wheel and pedals. Therefore, the user can turn and accelerate the car smoothly. However, some games are not configured to accept an analog input. In this case, you need to change your V3 Racing Wheel to Digital Mode. In this mode, the steering wheel and pedal give a digital output like a standard PlayStation controller.
The current mode of configuration is shown by the corresponding LED (left LED = Digital Mode / right LED = Analog Mode) on the wheel. Users can switch between the two modes anytime during game play. Your V3 Racing Wheel is set in Analog Mode when shipped out from the factory.
To change the mode of configuration:
1. Press and hold the SET button for about 1 second to enter the “FUNCTION SETUP MODE”; the LED will blink, and a single “beep” will be heard.
2. Press the Square button to set the wheel to Digital Mode, or the Circle button to set it to Analog Mode. The LED will stop blinking, and a 2-beep sound will be heard. This indicates that the Function Setup is complete.
Steering sensitivity (available in Analog Mode only):
Steering sensitivity is the most important factor in how your vehicle controls during game play. A high steering sensitivity would have a high and quick reaction. Even a slight turn in the wheel would cause your vehicle to react. A low steering sensitivity would have a low and slow reaction, but would be easier to control. There isn’t any particular format for steering sensitivity; it simply depends on personal preference and the game you are playing. In order to accommodate this, the V3 Racing Wheel provides 3 preset sensitivities (high, medium, and low) as well as customizable sensitivity control.
NOTE: The default steering sensitivity angle is the lowest one (150 degrees). When customizing a sensitivity, the wheel will assume a setting of 30 degrees if you try to set it at a value between 10 and 30 degrees (it will ignore any input of less than 10 degrees).
Preset Sensitivity
Due to different personal preferences, the V3 Racing Wheel provides 3 preset steering sensitivities for you to choose from (30, 90 & 150 degrees). The 30 degree setting corresponds to the highest sensitivity, while the 150 degree setting is the lowest. To select your steering sensitivity follow the steps below:
- Press and hold the SET button for about 1 second to enter the “FUNCTION SETUP MODE”, the LED indicator will blink, and two beeps will be heard.
- Press the direction on the digital directional pad that corresponds to the setting you desire (Up for high sensitivity, Left or Right for medium sensitivity, and Down for low sensitivity). Two beeps will sound.Your steering sensitivity has now been selected.
Customizable Sensitivity
Besides the 3 preset steering sensitivities, users can also customize the setting (anywhere from 30 to 150 degrees). To choose a custom setting, follow the steps below:
- Press and hold the SET button for about 1 second to enter the “FUNCTION SETUP MODE”, the LED indicator will blink, and two beeps will be heard.
- Rotate the wheel (either left or right) and then hold the wheel to the specific angle desired.
- Press the SET button again, and two beeps will sound to indicate the completion of the setting.
Button Relocation Function:
The four thumb-controlled buttons (the red ones) and the left and right pedals all have relocation ability. They can be assigned to perform the action done by any one of the following buttons:
The following buttons can be relocated into the 4 Thumb-controlled buttons or foot pedals:
Analog Mode
Button I
Button II
Button A
Button B
8-Way Directional
Button L
Button R
Digital Mode
Button Cross
Button Square
Button Circle
Button Triangle
8-Way Directional
Button L1
Button L2
Button R1
Button R2
To program the Button Relocation Function, follow the example below:
To relocate the upper left button as the Triangle button (in Digital Mode, for example):
1. Press and hold the SET button for about 1 second to enter the “FUNCTION SETUP MODE”; the LED will blink, and a single “beep” will be heard.
2. Press the upper left button. The LED will blink faster, and another “beep” will be heard.
3. Press the Triangle button. The LED will stop blinking, and 2 beeps will be heard. This indicates the completion of the Button Relocation procedure.
Now, the upper left button and the Triangle button will output the same signal/function to the PlayStation.
- In Analog and Digital Mode, the relocated buttons are independent of each other
- During the setup of the button relocation, you can cancel the procedure and return to normal operation by pressing the SET button
- To reset a particular relocated button to its default, simply press and hold the SET button for about 1 second and then press the desired relocated button twice (holding the button down for about 1 second during each press)
- Even if a button has been relocated, the button will still produce the default output when it is used in a subsequent relocation procedure
NOTE: The V3 Racing Wheel has non-volatile data memory. The latest function settings (including steering sensitivity and relocated button settings) will be retained even after unplugging the steering wheel from the PlayStation console or after turning the console off.
Steering Wheel Unit:
Wheel rotation angle:
Turning the wheel left or right (in Analog Mode) is the equivalent of twisting the Namco Negcon controller left and right. The optical reading device for the steering angle is so precise that it reads in graduations as fine as 2 degrees!
Up/Down knob:
Using the Up/Down (lock/unlock) knob on the right-hand side of the wheel’s base allows for the height adjustment (extension) of the wheel from the base. The wheel can be adjusted to a maximum distance of 88mm from the base in 5 distinct steps.
Tilt knob:
Using the Tilt knob on the back of the wheel’s base allows you to lock/unlock the wheel so to adjust the tilt angle. The wheel has a maximum tilt angle of 35 degrees (measured from vertical) in 3 distinct steps.
Foot Pedal Unit:
The spring-action Acceleration and Brake pedals are also equipped with an independent Button Relocation Function as described above. The default settings are Cross button for the right/accelerator pedal and Square button for the left/brake pedal when in Digital Mode and “I” for the right/accelerator and “II” for the left/brake pedal when in Analog Mode. With the Button Relocation Function, you can program these pedals any way you desire!
