Variants
Gran Turismo has some of the more varied demo variants in the library. Let’s start with the Sears Funtronics one up top. It has the same SCUS as the others – SCUS-94257. However, the PSRM is 010161. It is not clear if this came with any inserts.
Next up is the KayBee Toys release. This version was a mail-away gift through the stores if you pre-ordered the game and signed up for the free version of the PlayStation Underground. Once you got this in the mail, you could redeem the attached coupon from the back for $5 off the game when you picked it up.
The mailer coupon was physically attached to the cardboard case via rubber glue blobs and then shrink-wrapped over it.
It has the same SCUS, but the PSRM is 010160. Of interest is how the graphic designer used a black box to cover up the original PSRM on this and the Sears version. It makes me wonder if they were dealing with an art file where the text had been converted to outlines.
The coupon unfolded into a two-sided insert.
What is likely the original release comes in the form of a maxi-case clear jewel case. It holds the disc and the foldable manual insert. Same SCUS, but the PSRM is now 009850. It was part of a Blockbuster Video promotion where you got the demo disc if you rented the PlayStation system or game.
The manual unfolds into a 2-sided pamphlet.
