June 11 New Releases: Something is Missing

Hey all! So Truman Show was really good, and if you’re in the Chicago area like I am, it looks like the Chicago Bulls are going to go all out again against the Utah Jazz. They should just let whoever can make a full court shot win; would make the games so much quicker.

Anyway, speaking of missing shots, today’s two new releases mark a dark day for gaming. The first game out of the gate today is Road Rash 3D, the follow-up to the mega-popular (see what I did there?) Sega Genesis game series and the hugely successful 3DO and early PlayStation release. The catch? It’s only one player. One of the game’s most important features is gone. I know there are quite a few folk who will not be picking it up due to that design choice. Hopefully this isn’t the start of something bad for EA…

Jewel Case Release

Our other new game is…well…yeah. Having had the chance to play it when it was still sub-titled “EX Edition” on the Japanese side, the US release of X-Men Vs Street Fighter is a depressing, yet oddly curious port of the phenomenal arcade game. By default, there is no tag mode anymore; a result of the system’s limited ram. To make up for it, Capcom added the ability to string your super moves together, creating one long ridiculous combo. There’s also a LOT of animation frames missing, but even with all its faults, there is still a charm to the game. It’s a shell of what it once was, but it’s still playable. Just…not at full price.

Jewel Case Release (Fighters Edge)

This Anniversary News Update celebrates the Game’s original release date 20 years later. This is part of a series treating the PlayStation as if it launched September 9th, 2015.
