Welcome to the summer hours of PlayStation! If you’re into all things James Woods and Danny DeVito, Virgin Interactive’s release of Disney’s Hercules is right up your mythical alley! It’s a 2.5D game that’s half 3D, half 2D platforming action featuring characters and areas from the new movie. I haven’t been able to play it yet, but buzz around the neighborhood game store is pretty good. Have we reached the era of awesome movie games?
The other release out today is a genre I’ve already grown tired of – the future sport. Essentially take a modern day sport, add violence to it, or make something completely impractical and add crappy techno music. Battlesport, Acclaim’s port of the 3DO game, kicks the dead horse of using hover cars and giant glowing orbs to play a violent game of soccer. I gave up 3 minutes in; maybe when I get the chance to give it a proper review it’ll be more welcoming. I honestly don’t see the popularity in using cars to knock a giant soccer ball around. Maybe one day someone will figure out the the fun angle.
