May 14, 1997 New Releases

Great scott, there’s a lot of games in the house today. Plenty of variety, too. First off, let’s tackle the most interesting of the bunch, Acclaim’s All-Star Baseball. Now, I know you’re thinking, “Jason isn’t into sports games…” and you’d be right. However, this is a direct follow-up to Big Hurt Baseball. If Acclaim is seriously following the yearly update from here on out, it means EA Sports and Sony have a rival to take on Triple Play and MLB. THAT is an amazing concept, and will provide baseball fans more choices in the stores.

Jewel Case Release

Speaking of rivals, here’s Triple Play 98!

Jewel Case Release

Once the final outs are thrown, you can then slide into the driver’s seat of Namco’s third Ridge Racer, lovingly dubbed Rage Racer. This is a fantastic racing game with some nifty bells and whistles, including creating your own Team Name and Logo that appear on the cars. For those magazine fans, Game Fan’s own Lt. Gamble’s designs are featured on the back of the case in the bottom screenshot.

Jewel Case Release – 2 Ring

Finally, Mark Hamill and crew return for the PlayStation port of the PC sequel Wing Commander IV. I’m too busy with Rage Racer to preview this one, but when the game comes with two manuals AND a controller cheat card, you know it’s going to be involved.

Double Jewel Case Release – 2 Ring

So much gaming…and there’s two more coming tomorrow. See you then!

This Anniversary News Update celebrates the Game’s original release date 20 years later. This is part of a series treating the PlayStation as if it launched September 9th, 2015.
