Variants

Jewel Case Variant
Jewel Case Variant – “Teen” Sticker Variant. The ESRB re-evaluated the game, causing the need to sticker over the “Kids to Adult” rating. While the manual and back insert have been 100% matching pairs, I’ve only once seen a disc with the sticker on it. This leads to speculation if the stickers were applied to at the factory, or if applied to at the retailers (and if at retailers, is this an EB Games / Babbages ‘gut copy’? Would they have just been applied to the outside of the shrinkwrap?). That said, only the manual and insert are needed for the full variant.
The true, printed ‘Teen’ ESRB variant with matching disc.
Greatest Hits Jewel Case Variant.

Trivia

  • Road Rash is regretfully stuck with a bunch of misprints in the same vein as Final Fantasy VII. The long box claims the game is one player. The jewel case original claims it’s 1 to 4 players. The true amount of players (which is 2) would not be properly documented until the ‘Teen’ jewel variant.
  • Another port from the 3DO, though it was fixed up in various spots.
  • Despite it’s legacy from the early days of gaming, the series swan song’ed on the PlayStation, and hasn’t been seen since.
  • Road Rash gained some notoriety on the 3DO, as early system boxes and sales pamphlets showed an illustration of the game but treated it as a ‘screenshot’. Obviously it looked nothing like the picture.
